Sodium Chloride (De icing Salt) / Road Salt ________________________________________

Overview: Our high quality Sodium Chloride De icing Salt, also known as rock salt, is engineered to melt ice and snow efficiently in winter conditions. Widely used by municipalities, road authorities, airports, contractors, and property owners, it helps maintain safe surfaces on roads, runways, sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways. We supply this product in bulk loose form or bagged (1 ton jumbo bags & 50 kg bags) to match your storage, handling, and usage needs. ________________________________________

Key Benefits

• Effective Ice & Snow Melting: Works reliably to lower the freezing point of water, breaking bonds between ice and pavement.

• Cost Efficient: Lower cost per ton compared to many chemical blends, good melting performance especially in temperatures down to about −10 °C / 14 °F (depending on application rate).

• Traction Aid: Adds grip on slick surfaces, helping reduce slips/falls in pedestrian and vehicle traffic areas.

• Simplicity & Availability: Naturally occurring, minimal processing, easy to store & use.

Technical Data: Property Specification / Typical Values

Chemical name Sodium Chloride (NaCl) CAS No. 7647 14 5

Purity / Minimum Active Salt ≥ 97 % NaCl (other salts & moisture make up rest)

Moisture Content ≤ 3 5 % (depending on grade)

Grain / Particle Size Usually 3 8 mm / coarse rock salt. Other mesh sizes possible on request.

Color & Appearance Off white / grayish crystalline solid; free flowing granules / chunks.

Freezing Point Depression Effective melting down to approx −10 °C / 14 °F under typical conditions. (Performance declines with heavier snow/ice thickness & lower temperatures.)

Solubility in Water ~ 357 360 g/L at 20 °

Density (bulk) ~ 1.2 to 1.3 g/cm³ (loose); varies with packing and moisture content.

pH of Solution (~10 % w/w) Neutral to slightly alkaline (≈ 7 8)

Packaging & Supply Options

We offer flexible packaging to suit different needs:

• Bulk loose / Loose in trucks: For large scale users (municipalities, highways, contractors). Delivered by tipper trucks / dumpers.

• 1 ton Jumbo Bags (FIBC): Industrial scale, easier to transport, handle & store.

• 50 kg bags: For smaller operations or retail, easier manual handling, perfect for salt spreaders, smaller projects. All bags are made of durable material (woven polypropylene or similar), designed to withstand transportation, stacking, and outdoor storage (covered). ________________________________________

Quality & Compliance

• Supplied with Certificate of Analysis showing purity, moisture, and particle size distribution.

• Complies with relevant regional / national standards for road de icing salt (can include e.g. EN 14898 in Europe, ASTM standards in the USA, or local equivalents).

• Free from large contaminants (stones, foreign debris). ________________________________________

Usage & Application Guidelines

• Pre treatment vs Post treatment: Applying salt before a storm / ice formation (“pre‐wet” or “anti‐icing”) helps prevent bonding of ice to pavement. Post treatment (once ice has formed) requires higher quantities and may be less effective.

• Spread Rate: Typical spread rates are in the order of 5–10 g/m² for light frost / thin ice; heavier accumulation may require more. Exact amount depends on temperature, ice thickness, surface type.

• Storage: Store in dry, covered, ventilated spaces. Keep bags off the ground, protect from moisture and rain. Moist salt clumps & reduces effectiveness.

• Handling Safety: Use gloves / safety gear to avoid skin irritation. Avoid inhalation of dust. Wash hands after handling. ________________________________________

Advantages vs Alternatives:

Compared with alternative de icers (e.g. calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, acetates, etc.):

Comparison Sodium Chloride Advantages Limitations Cost Much lower cost, widely available Less effective at very low temperatures (below −15 °C / 5 °F)

Environmental Impact Naturally occurring; effects understood; less “chemical odor” Can cause corrosion / damage to some metals, concrete, vegetation if overused or improperly managed

Storage & Handling Simple; no need for special containment or mixing Bulk takes substantial volume; moisture control needed

Typical Applications
